New Braunfels and Wurstfest weekend

by Cynthia

We drove to New Braunfels for the weekend to stay with our friends, Bill and Angela.  We just couldn’t miss going to Wurstfest, the 10 day salute to sausage.  This would be the girls first time to go to the Wurstfest.  There was plenty of German food and music.  Friday we arrived at our friends house to unload our things and then headed over to the Wurstfest for some dinner.  We sat outside the big tent near the Comal River and listened to music from German bands.  Steak on a stick, sausage on a stick, corn on the cob, and Kartoufelpuffers (I hope I spelled that right, Potato Pancakes) was what we had that evening.  For dessert we had Zangos which is fried cheesecake.   Saturday afternoon we went to Landa Park in New Braunfels for a short hike along the Panther Canyon Nature Trail.   The girls got to see the natural springs in Landa Park that feed into the Comal River.  We went back to the Wurstfest that evening.   We headed home on Sunday.

Hi. Our family spent a half hour or so today browing through the various posts on your website. We are amazed to see a family actually sell their home and head out into the great outdoors. The kids LOVE the idea. We have thought of doing something like this when the kids are off to college, but we think you may be on to something here. Why not bring them along and let them get a ‘real world’ education… places like DC, NY and almost everwhere would probably be more educating than the public schools here in FL. Of course, the obvious question we all have is how you handle schooling the children? How long does it take for them to be schooled each week? Are you affiliated with a home schooling center in your hometown where you periodically go to take tests? We are very curious as to how you handle educating your children. Do you have any additional info you could share? Sincerely, the Webber family of Florida
